Environmental Awareness

The Environmental Awareness Committee at Highcrest coordinates a number of activities throughout the year, primarily during Environmental Awareness week in October and Earth Week in April.

The committee would love your help! If you are interested in planning or helping with environmental activities at Highcrest, please contact EnvironmentalAwareness@highcrestpto.org.

Recycle Your Plastic Bags at Highcrest

The national Trex Challenge to recycle the most plastic bags is back at Highcrest, and this year we know we can win. (We came so close last year!) Bring your plastic bags to the school lobby collection boxes.

Environmental Awareness Objectives/Guidelines for PTO/PTA Events

Support D39 strategic goals related to Sustainability Practices by implementing environmentally sustainable practices for all PTO/A events.  When planning an event, please consider the following Objectives/Guidelines: Zero-Waste-Guidelines

Pledge to Reduce Food Waste

Last May, the PTO contracted with a firm to collect and compost food waste. They collected approximately 750 pounds of food waste in four days, or 187.50 pounds of food waste per day, or .22 pounds per student per day.
